SUBJ: 2023 COAST GUARD SPORTS PARTICIPATION GRANT PROGRAM

A. Coast Guard Morale, Well-Being and Recreation Manual, COMDTINST M1710.13 (series)

1. The Coast Guard recognizes sports as an essential part of health and physical fitness as it directly impacts the readiness of our workforce. Coast Guard MWR policy supports active duty athletes by offering financial assistance to defray participation costs in sporting events authorized by the MWR Sports Participation Grant program.

2. The Community Services Command (CSC) may maintain limited non-appropriated funding (NAF) support for individual sports competitions (no teams) if funding for this program is available. CSC evaluates the level of participation throughout the year to maximize the number of approvals with the funding support awarded. In NAF year 2022, following a record number of sports grant requests, CSC limited grants to one per person at a maximum of $100 per event, allowing MWR to support all active duty member requests.

3. MWR notifies members via email upon funding approval and provides payment guidance. MWR anticipates a higher level of participation in NAF year 2023 and intends to follow the prior year's policy to support member requests at one per person up to $100 per event. CSC will provide an updated announcement if additional funding is available for multiple grants.

4. CSC will consider all requests for organized live and virtual events. The individual competition entry fee is fully reimbursable. Upon interest in a sporting event, submit your sports grant request electronically. There is no requirement to prepay registration; submit the request when interested in an event to secure funding. MWR will obligate the funds and provide reimbursement guidance once approved.

5. The program supports grants for individual competition entry fees. Team entry fees, memberships, league dues, licenses, training programs, equipment, etc., are not permitted. If competing in an individual sports competition during NAF year 2023 (1 Feb 23 through 31 Jan 24), you may request a sports grant using the link below.
