SUBJ: COAST GUARD ATHLETES PARTICIPATION IN 2022 ARMED FORCES SPORTS

A. CG Morale, Well-Being, and Recreational Manual, COMDTINST M1710.13 (series)

1. This announcement highlights the opportunity that Coast Guard members on active duty have to participate in the Armed Forces Sports program with the potential opportunity to represent the United States military through international sports competitions.

2. In 2021, CSC awarded 42 athletes with the Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation for their outstanding professionalism in joint-service competitions, which bolstered military recruiting and retention efforts. These athletes strengthened our position in Armed Forces Sports and helped the Navy secure gold in Women's Softball and Men's Triathlon championships.

3. Navy trials/Armed Forces competitions are open to all Coast Guard members on active duty. The Navy MWR website advertises the anticipated 2022 schedule and application due dates. Due to increased planning requirements, dates and locations are subject to change, and the website will provide the most current information. You can view the All-Navy Sports calendar and download the service application through the following link.

4. Qualified athletes may submit their command-endorsed application to the Coast Guard Sports Director for consideration. Commands are encouraged to support the AFS program as participation on a military team brings credit to our service members and the United States military as a whole. If a member is selected, CSC or Navy Sports provides the funding for members to compete with the expectation that selected members participate in higher-level competitions that may follow.

5. Submit command concerns and command endorsed applications to the CG Sports Director: CWO3 Kenneth Collins; Kenneth.S.Collins@uscg.mil. You can learn more about Coast Guard Sports and other MWR programs by visiting the CG MWR website through the following link.
