19-23 AUG 2021
1. The Community Services Command (CSC) Morale, Well-being, and Recreation (MWR)
program is working with the other military services and several sponsoring Non
-Federal Entities to have an Armed Forces Esports tournament. The tournament
will occur in conjunction with the Armed Forces Sports Rugby Sevens
Championship in Glendale, CO, from 19-23 August 2021. The game to be played is
Rocket League 3v3 on the PC with a controller or keyboard and mouse.
2. In recent years, the other military services have brought Esports into both
their MWR and recruiting programs as a tool to support readiness, retention,
and resiliency within the service. For the Coast Guard, this will be our first
event in this growing MWR activity. We anticipate this to be an MWR activity
that will experience significant growth in the coming years.
3. The Coast Guard MWR program mission for Esports is to create an inclusive
gaming community where all ages, ranks, and backgrounds can come together and
share fun gaming experiences. This will help form positive relationships,
enhance competitive spirit, and improve esprit de corps. The Esports industry
projects having 644 million viewers by 2022. 73% of the Esports audience is
below the age of 34. These demographics fit in with the Armed Services and
helps foster the community spirit that is gained from participation at all
levels.
4. Commands are highly encouraged to support this effort by endorsing high
-performing applicants for the Armed Forces Esports Championship. Participation
on an Armed Forces team brings credit to our service members and the United
States military. The Esports team selected will represent the Coast Guard in
competition against the other military services. CSC MWR will fund the members
chosen to represent the Coast Guard in the Armed Forces Esports Championship
from 19-23 August.
5. All Coast Guard members on active duty interested in applying must email
feedback@uscgmwr.org no later than 23 July to receive an application. Command
endorsed applications are due to the Community Services Command (CSC) by 1
August. Team managers will provide information for an online qualifying event
as soon as details are ready.
