SUBJ: 2025 TRACEN YORKTOWN MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. (MLK) INVITATIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

A. Military Assignments and Authorized Absences, COMDTINST M1000.8A, Articles 1.G.2.D and 2.A.10.B

1. In remembrance of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Training Center Yorktown is sponsoring the 45th Annual MLK Basketball Tournament to be held at Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown from 21-24 January 2025.

2. The objectives of this tournament are to exhibit sportsmanship and team play, develop a respectfully competitive spirit, and showcase our Service members' athletic talent.

3. This is a double-elimination tournament under NCAA rules with modifications to the length of games. The tournament is limited to the first twelve teams with paid entry fees. All players must be Coast Guard affiliated (active duty, reserve, auxiliary, retired, or civilian). Teams are limited to ten players and one coach. Only three players not assigned to a unit can participate on a unit's team and must be indicated on the roster. Only two CG civilians or auxiliarists are allowed per team. Some leeway to the roster rules will be in effect for smaller units. These units are encouraged to contact the tournament director to work out roster solutions.

4. Players, coaches and guests are expected to attend the 45th Anniversary Opening Ceremony prior to the first game on Tuesday, 21 January 2025. There will be a 3-point competition during the tournament. Two players from each team may enter the 3-point competition.

5. The entry fee is 550 dollars per team. Entry fee payments should be made payable to TRACEN Yorktown MWR. Credit cards will also be accepted. Rosters and entry payments are due no later than 04 January 2024.

6. Limited berthing may be available at TRACEN Yorktown on a first come, first served basis. If requested, MWR will make reservations when the entry fee and team roster are received. Additional at-cost lodging options include:

8. In accordance with Ref A, an administrative absence may be authorized for military members subject to command approval.

9. Experienced athletes serving on active-duty orders have opportunities to represent the Service and Team USA through the Armed Forces Sports (AFS) program. This event provides a unique training opportunity for CG Sports to evaluate and recruit athletes ahead of the AFS Championship.
