1. Coast Guard Rugby will compete in the 2026 Men's Armed Forces
Rugby Sevens Championship, held in conjunction with the RugbyTown
7s tournament in Glendale, CO, from 19-24 August 2026.
2. Coast Guard Men's Rugby seeks athletes interested in competing
at the highest levels of the sport. Participation is open to all
active-duty members and reservists on active-duty orders. Rugby
experience is preferred but not required. Members with elite
athletic experience in collegiate or high school sports are
encouraged to apply. Participation in this event may result in
selection to the All-Armed Forces team and opportunities for
international competition.
3. Per reference (A), commands are encouraged to support
participation in the Armed Forces Sports program. Competing on an
Armed Forces team brings credit to the Coast Guard and the United
States military. By representing the service at an elite
international rugby sevens competition featuring top military,
professional, and international teams, athletes gain a unique
opportunity to showcase the Coast Guard on a prominent stage
before thousands of spectators nationwide.
4. Members interested in participating must attend the entire
training camp from 9-15 August to be considered for a roster
position. Player evaluations conclude on 15 August, after which
the coaching staff will select 14 athletes to continue training
and prepare to represent the service at the AFS Championship.
5. The Community Services Command will provide travel
reimbursement and lodging for members selected to try out.
Players who are selected for the team will continue to receive
reimbursement through the championship competition.
6. Command-endorsed applications must be routed to the Coast
Guard Sports Office no later than 17 April to allow sufficient
time for player invitations and travel arrangements. Submit
command endorsed application and any command concerns to
CGSports@uscgmwr.org.
7. All applicants must complete the rugby questionnaire while
awaiting command endorsement of their sports application.
Applicants should also join the CG Rugby MS Teams Channel. The
